Last legislative session, HB23-1037 (HB23-1037), allowed that anyone who was sentenced for a nonviolent felony offense to receive additional earned time for completing an accredited degree or other credential awarded by a regionally accredited institution of higher education while the individual is incarcerated.
An individual receives:
Generally, an individual cannot reduce their sentence by more than 30%. The bill exempts earned time received from completing an accredited degree from the 30% statutory limit.

An individual receives:
- 2 years of earned time for a doctoral degree
- 5 years of earned time for a master’s degree
- 1 year of earned time for an associate or baccalaureate degree
- 5 year earned time for a certificate or other credential that requires at least 30 credit hours.
